Parts For the LC4 and LC5- it got the Cab from the larger Morris NV 6 cylinder with narrower guards to fit the new 16" tyres and wheels, same bonnet and grille too. The cab had a well thought out air flow system that was impressive even when looked at today, this new truck was cooler in Summer and if the driver smoked the smoke was exhausted out through the vents above the rear window as the holes hidden under the eye browse above the front windscreen had air enter then travel between the roof steel and the inner roof lining taking wet sweat from there and flowing to the rear vents. Further vents inside were drawing air from within the cab. Side scuttle vents cooled your legs too.
The old NPFC/3 engine found its last placement in this truck too, 2050cc ohv 4 cylinder petrol of 42 bhp. This was a short lived model that was produced from June 1952- at chassis number 28647 and discontinued a year later at Chassis number 30871. By this time Morris Commercial Cars were now under BMC control and there were changes on the horizon.
1953 Austin and Morris are as one, well supposed to be. With Leonard Lord at the helm it is said he had the utmost enjoyment playing one Company against the other, although behind the scenes they were economising, which was a great skill that Lord possessed. The New LC5 had arrived, visually looking the same as the previous LC4- the LC5 now had a more economical and more powerful 2.2 litre engine (a de-tuned Austin 16hp motor) and a new 4 speed gearbox (although still not with synchromesh) it retained the same steering, suspension, and differential. The LC5 30cwt was a lively truck compared to the earlier models and was a success. It was produced until the end of January 1960 by then looking dated and replaced by the Forward control FGK30 and the Series 3 30cwt'
Note: the long tried Lockheed equiload brake system remained with LC trucks until 1954 when it was all changed to Girling system.
